Battling isn't the simple "I attack you with attack" format it used to be. Nowadays, you can find all sorts of elements on the field that add or subtract from the overall battle experience. Here is a working list of stuff you can find.
[glow=Green,2,300]Weather/Sky[/glow]Normal - A basic sunny day. No battle effect
Night - Same as day, but darker and usually colder. All attacks will lose 10% acc. in this unless you are a Fire/Light/Zap user.
Sunny - A very hot sunny day. Fire attacks do double, water do half. Also effects certain characters (like plants w/photosynthesis).
Sandstorm - Sand is blown around. Does 5 damage per turn to all but Earth/Metal users.
Rain - Water attacks do double damage, fire does half. Also effects certain characters (like plants w/growth).
Fog - Like night, but more intense. All attacks lose 30-50% acc unless Light/Fire/Zap.
Strong Wind - Projectiles have a greater chance of missing. Lightweight players/monsters may be blown out of battle.
Snow - Will lose 1 HP every turn if not protected or a Water (Ice)/Fire (Heat) user.
Hail - Will lose 5 HP every turn unless Water.
[glow=red,2,300]Ground[/glow]
Normal - Basic dirt/grass. No effect.
Quicksand - Look out! If you fall in this, you will die after 3-5 turns.
Magma/Lava - If you touch this, Non-Fire users will sustain a burn and lose an additional 5 HP every turn.
Water - If it's really deep, you can't cross unless you're Water. If you are Water, it increases your speed.
Crevasse/Pit - Cannot cross unless you are Wind/can fly. If you fall in, you die/are out for the remainder of the battle.
Void - Very rare, but sucks everthing in. Ends battle automatically.
Heal - If you can find this, stand on it! Your life and novium will go up steadily every turn.
Trap - Can also be mines. Standing on will either reveal a hole or do damage.
[glow=orange,2,300]Field[/glow]
Not to be mistaken with ground. The field or terrain will change certain moves (like the Earth Forge). Only specific moves are affected by this, so pay attention. Most of the time, you will want to use the ground stuff above.
Grass - Changes attack to Plant
Dirt/Sand/Rock - Changes attack to Earth
Water - Changes attack to Water
Hot Earth/Magma/Lava - Changes attack to Fire
Void - Changes attack to Dark
Heal - Changes attack to Light
Inside a Manmade Establishment - Changes attack to Metal
